The Gigabit Challenge Business Plan Competition (TGC) represents a single initiative in a worldwide strategy to develop technological innovation using Google's 1 Gigabit fiber network and to bring that intellectual property to the private sector. Individuals, teams, or businesses with a conceptual idea, a complete business plan or an early stage operating business are invited to enter.
Kansas City is one of the fastest growing high-tech cities in the country, currently ranked 8th nationally in the number of telecommunications jobs and recently listed as one of "Four Entrepreneurial Cities To Keep Your Eyes On" by Entrepreneurs Unplugged. Yet the deployment of the Google Fiber Network provides the community and the region with a never before seen opportunity to take a leadership role in the creation of next generation technologies and companies. The Gigabit Challenge invites companies to submit their plans for establishing these innovative and disruptive businesses. Business Plans will be evaluated on the following:
- Ability to clearly and completely convince the judges that a real market opportunity exists and that they have the right combination of product/service, team, and plan to generate significant expected financial returns from that opportunity given the amount of risk associated with the opportunity.
- Growth & impact: Demonstration of potential for being in business in five years and how the business will impact the local economy (e.g., generating revenue, creating jobs).
- Brevity & clarity: Business plan presented clearly and concisely, and is easy to understand
- Entrants must show how their venture ties into the strengths and assets of the Goggle Fiber Network and/or how being connected to the Google Fiber Network will create a beneficial relationship within the Kansas City metropolitan region.

What types of plans are eligible – All plans for new businesses, new products, or significant changes in existing businesses are eligible, provided that such businesses utilize the Google fiber network as a part of the business's operations.
